The Cost of Using BlackBerry

In the world of smartphones, there’s the BlackBerry, the iPhone, and everything else. The upcoming release of the Palm Pre could shake that up, but Palm hasn’t had the best track record of late. Although Apple and RIM have staked out a lot of the same territory, the segments they primarily appeal to have been pretty well established.
Standing on the shoulders of the wildly successful iPod, the iPhone is the flashy cousin. Slick prime time commercials, the game changing touch screen display, and tight integration with iTunes (the Apple media store that already boasts millions of users), the iPhone is the top consumer smartphone for a reason.
Similarly, the BlackBerry is the serious cousin. Eschewing hip TV ads, the BlackBerry has become a status symbol in its own right, the choice of business-minded professionals that depend on e-mail and voice communications. Dubbed the ‘Crackberry’ by some for their users tendency to obsess over checking messages, the BlackBerry has entrenched itself as the top enterprise smart phone, all the way up to the country’s top executive, who famously had his BlackBerry souped up by the NSA for security reasons.
For all its strengths, utilizing the BlackBerry for your business has a downside- it doesn’t come cheap.  A 2007 white paper by RIM and The Tolly Group estimates the cost of BlackBerry Enterprise Server for 500 users to be $36,729. That’s strictly an entry cost, and doesn’t include the cost of the actual handsets, monthly data rates, or the cost in personnel to manage the servers and applications. It’s a stiff proposition for most SMBs and startups.
There’s another downside of trying to manage these functions in house- the issue of security and data integrity. Unless you already have a bulletproof data backup and retention system and intrusion protection scheme in place (and consider for a second the word ‘bulletproof’), you will run the risk of a serious compromise in your critical business communications.
It simply doesn’t make a lot of sense to invest in technology and man hour resources for IT functions that can be done better, and cheaper, by outsourcing. When it comes to making the most of BlackBerry-based communications for your business, the answer is managed, hosted Exchange. The good news is that RIM has a specific licensing scheme that makes it affordable to obtain BlackBerry services on a monthly model.
When you move to a hosted Exchange solution, you can achieve significant benefits in flexibility, security, scheduling tools and much more, but as it pertains to this discussion, you also benefit from built in integration with BlackBerry. Steep buy in costs are mitigated, and deployment time is reduced to the point of insignificance. Your employees enjoy robust, on the go communication, at a fraction of the cost to do it in house.
The savings in employee hours and the cost of training is especially germane. By building your BlackBerry communications on a hosted Exchange platform, you reap the benefit of highly trained, certified technicians that are at your disposal, 24/7/365. It’s a level of service and support that can play a critical role in a company’s overall success, but one which would otherwise break the budget of most SMBs.
NaviSite Hosted Exchange is the right choice for startups and SMBs who need BlackBerry communications without the cost and overhead of bringing it in house. It not only makes sense based on the cost of entry, but also in the ancillary benefits of NaviSite’s enterprise grade network connectivity, data centers built with N + 1 redundancy, and Always There™ support that lives up to the name. Best of all, it also supports the iPhone. After all, where’s the fun in all work and no play?

Internet Marketing Companies

Internet Marketing companies will be able to assist you in generating high quality traffic.

Web Hosting Billing Companies

The simple process ofweb hosting billing can be easily handled with billing software that creates invoices and automatically bills customers. The software keeps track of what has been paid as well as the invoice status. There are also tracking devices in place that include account usage, so that appropriate storage or bandwidth fees may be easily and automatically added.
Some of the features of a web hosting billing program may include automated signups, payment processing and account provisioning in an online, recurring, web based system.
In addition, billing software can be used as an effective business maintenance development and management tool, since it may be set up to alert customers as service limits are approaching. When clients appreciate being notified before excess usage fees are assessed, the web hosting billing system can also serve as part of an effective customer support system.

Web Hosting Automation

Web hosting automation is the process of automating server tasks and is a necessity for every web hosting company. Since web hosts have literally thousands of clients on their servers, it goes without saying that it would be prohibitively expensive to try to operate without some form of automation. In fact, it is automation that actually makes it possible to have a web hosting business.
On an hourly basis, web hosting customers submit requests at a level that would be impossible to execute manually. The control panel software is a major part of the automation routine that manages and prioritizes tasks for technical hosting staff. Server administration tasks that are automated can include basic services such as email, databases, software installation and access control. For customer ease of use and to eliminate development requirements, hosting companies generally use popular hosting automation solutions that include full support for all operating systems.

Web Hosting Affiliate Programs

There are several interesting web hosting affiliate programs regularly offered by various web hosts and hosting related companies. As a web hosting affiliate, it is possible to assist website visitors in finding affordable, reliable and secure web hosting, while being compensated at the same time. Generally, the conversion rates and pay per lead can be well worth the sign-up effort.
To find the best web hosting affiliate programs, conduct some research, paying attention to information and rankings provided by review websites. Program and other important information can be found in forums that often include experienced professionals to help guide the process. Also, some of the best deals can be found from those with more extensive knowledge of the affiliate marketing business.
Using affiliate programs is one of the ways that web hosts can easily increase their base of clients, by paying for referrals through a cash or credit system in exchange for new customers. When new orders are received by web hosts through affiliates, they are usually identified by either a referral link or a coupon code. Existing clients are sometimes provided with credits for free hosting or other services in lieu of a cash payment for referrals

Web Hosting Addons

Web hosting addons typically consist of domain name registration, transfer and aliasing services, extra database and email storage, data transfer, FTP sites and SSL site options.
Web hosting addons such as extra email and database storage space or additional bandwidth can ensure a better web presence, which creates a much more advantageous and lucrative setting for online businesses overall. Addon domain name registration services provide convenience, while domain parking can make it easier for visitors to find online businesses, with multiple versions of domain names pointing at the main website. Generally, addon services are priced affordably so that there is minimal cost involved, for maximum hosting plan benefit.

VPS Web Hosting Companies

Virtual private server hosting is one of the more popular web hosting service platforms available. Also referred to as ”virtual dedicated server” (VDS) hosting, the solution partitions a physical server into multiple sections so that each has the appearance and capability of running on its own dedicated device. Virtual servers also have the ability to run their own complete operating systems and may be independently rebooted.
The lower cost advantages of virtual private server hosting can greatly assist smaller online businesses that cannotjustify the expense of dedicated server hosting. For those companies that don’t expect a great deal of growth within a short period of time, VPS is definitely an option to consider for their hosting needs.
In addition, with the development of virtualization software, VPS has experienced a resurgence and renaissance as technologies for other architectures become more prevalent.

Reseller Web Hosting

Reseller Web Hosting programs offer anyone desiring primary or secondary income with the ability to enter the web hosting business easily and efficiently. Resellers are provided with access to completely automated systems without the usual sales responsibilities and operating costs.
In addition to hosting services, reseller web hosting programs also include billing and full technical support to the customers of resellers anonymously. This can lend heavily to the credibility factor of a reseller web hosting business.
Entrepreneurs, webmasters and web site developers who engage a reseller web hosting program have the potential to earn recurring revenue by offering complete web hosting services to clients, without the usual expense of operating a full-fledged web hosting business.

Private Label Resellers

Private Label Resellers can start a fully functional web hosting business, without having to deal with the typical billing, technical and engineering support services usually required. Upon registration in a program offered by a web hosting firm, resellers are provided with everything needed to set up a viable Internet hosting business. Monthly commissions from a private label reseller business can amount to as much as 50% of the total revenue generated through the program.
Private label reselling programs are designed to provide a private branded web hosting company for each reseller so that business can be conducted anonymously, including hosting, billing and support services. A private label reseller account is one of the most effective ways to add value to existing programs or become a great extra revenue source for online businesses.

Managed Server Hosting Companies

Managed server hosting companies handle the daily operations of servers including all maintenance and updates. Managed server hosting options work well for small businesses in particular, since the solution eliminates the necessity and expense of buying, operating and maintaining the server.
Experienced system administrators handle tasks such as applying software patches, kernel compiling, OS restoration and the constant security monitoring of the server. Because customers may effectively rely upon the expertise of technical professionals to perform essential mission critical tasks, Managed Server Hosting is often one of the more viable hosting options for businesses to consider.

Exchange Hosting

Exchange hosting is a server system which uses software to enable sending and receiving email and other kinds of interactive communications. The exchange hosting system was developed to provide easy access to business critical information for companies of all sizes, to increase efficiency and simplify business communications.
The exchange system is designed to integrate with applications typically utilized by businesses, such as a variety of email programs, shared folders, calendars, contacts and task lists. Hosted exchange server systems store email messages on a dedicated server. Users can retrieve private or shared files anywhere at any time, through a web browser, PDA or email client installed on a computer.
Since the sharing of business critical information has become a part of the modern business fabric, there is a compelling reason for companies to consider exchange hosting as a viable and essential collaboration platform. Exchange hosting solutions offer benefits in flexibility and startup costs, along with the simplicity of management and maintenance

Ecommerce Hosting Companies

Doing business online usually includes some kind of ecommerce component or shopping cart solution. Finding the right partner to help you with your ecommerce solution can be a critical choice that will determine the success or failure of your online business.

Dedicated Server Hosts

Dedicated server hosts provide customers with servers for their exclusive use, usually housed in secure data centers. While similar to colocation services, dedicated server hardware is owned by the provider, rather than the customer.
Because customers lease an entire server that is not shared with any other entity, it is a more flexible solution than shared or VPS hosting, allowing customers to have full control over the server(s). Dedicated server hosts may also include varying levels of managed support for maintenance, upgrades, patches and security which can be very beneficial for customers. For example, operating system updates and support can eliminate much of the time consuming and expensive server management burden for the dedicated server owner.
Dedicated server web hosting is typically advantageous for businesses that require more space or control over their web sites than shared plans can offer, with the added benefit of less security risk and various support options to choose from

Colocation Companies

Colocation companies provide an effective way to lower IT costs with current, reliable technology and services, as a significant step further than simple dedicated servers or VPS systems. Colocation hosting provides leased space for customer’s servers within a professionally run data center, along with the necessary IP, bandwidth and server power – as either a managed or unmanaged service.
Managed colocation provides the customer with space for their own server, along with a management team. For small businesses that want the control of colocation without the high cost of an IT department, managed colocation can be particularly useful. The unmanaged colocation solution requires that companies handle all the administration and management of the web server, software updates and the website.
Colocation services can provide access to network management specialists, as well as extra security and outage protection without excessive bandwidth and infrastructure development expense. In addition, colocation can be particularly advantageous for handling mission-critical online applications and data-serving.
The colocation hosting solution can be particularly beneficial for companies that require an unusual web software configuration or total control, with extra security.

Cloud Web Hosting

Websites hosted on the cloud hosting platform operate on clustered servers so that online operations are not limited to single servers. Cloud hosting benefits include a high level of scalability which makes it possible for website expansion to be achieved without typical server resource limitations.
Security, load balance and hardware resources are all handled virtually, so that website access includes processing power distribution over multiple servers in real time. This also means that issues such as migration between servers and sudden surge crashes can be easily avoided with cloud hosting.
Cloud hosting can also be a much more cost efficient solution, since charges are based upon the quantity of computing power used. Because cloud hosting provides near-instant expansion as service demands increase – without having to address hardware and server requirements, it is a viable web hosting solution for many online businesses

Email Hosting Services – A Big Boon For Web Companies

The Hosting News) – Email Hosting is considered to be one of the most valuable resources these days and there are numerous companies providing your business with an email address and services that liberates you from all the worries related to equipments and expenses needed for hosting. WHAT OUR CLIENT SAY IN NEPAL

Ishwor Adhikari (M.A.)Mr. Adhikari a young leader and Chairman/CEO of Pathshala Nepalwww.columbus.edu.np After setting our website, our interaction with guardians was much enhanced .We got lot of letters from our website informing that the website has been very helpful to get information about our school. They said they now don't need to call to school to even to inquire small things. We are really pleased that our website has been created by such a diligent team of people.

Reality of unlimited hosting:Is it real

Many people think that “more is better”. This is obviously thought to be same with web space. Some people always want to get huge spaces though their site may never actually need that much space. Moreover ,there is no such direct benefits by having web space 5 times or 10 times than actually needed space. Specially, people who doesn’t fully know about technical web space requirements are often preyed by web hosters who always try to sale big space to ignorant users. The person may need just 50mb and could have got it for x but the web hosters makes packages in a such a way that they offer 500mb for 4x then people always tend to go for 500mb though space is not required for them.
Besides these clear disadvantages, some of the points to remember before opting to unlimited hosting are:Most of the servers selling unlimited space are over-crowded by resource consumers.(After all many opt for unlimited hosting because they need huge resource of the server, so there is bunch of resource consuming site, fighting for the resource of the computer )but as you know the resource of the server is limited(I have heard unlimited MB ,RAM) so ultimately your site offers. You should be very careful about the low price claims made by these unlimited sites. Are there any hidden cost. Hidden cost doesn’t need to be implied just like extra money for than basic features but many packages require long term commitment or payment in advance to get the listed bargain. So, these hidden cost are also dangerous.
It has been said, raised by many customers that these unlimited hosters have very poor support. It is bound to be as most of them promise to deliver or provide higher than actual dollar or money could buy(paid by web space buyer). So, after all they need to pay for increasing support staffs as well but low cost inhibit them from doing so which ultimately results in to poor service.People should understand difference between LARGE and Infinite. These are not infinite web space or bandwidth .They actually are larger than required for normal websites. After all everything on the earth is limited and finite. We have not heard that somebody has invited computer with infinite space and infinite bandwidth. You mostly find unlimited web space in shared servers but do not find unlimited dedicated servers. So, it should be noted that they are planning to share large space to LARGE number of people(may be to accounts larger than its capacity) than normally done with normal servers. So don’t just blindly go to so called unlimited. After all nothing is unlimited in the earth. It’s just how it is presented to disguise people using different tricks.

AIM Pages

AIM Pages is a free service offered by AOL to anyone that has an AIM Screenname and is at least 13 years of age. It allows the user to create his or her own web page and share it with friends.
Automatically included in the page are links to
email and Instant Message the owner, along with a section about the owner's buddies. It is possible to create "modules" and drag them into a page in order to add to it. It is also possible to insert one's own HTML code.

E-mail hosting service

An e-mail hosting service is an Internet hosting service that runs e-mail servers.
E-mail hosting services usually offer
premium e-mail at a cost as opposed to advertising supported free e-mail or free webmail. E-mail hosting services thus differ from typical end-user e-mail providers such as webmail sites. They cater mostly to demanding e-mail users and Small and Mid Size (SME) businesses, while larger enterprises usually run their own e-mail hosting service. E-mail hosting providers allow for premium e-mail services along with custom configurations and large number of accounts. In addition, hosting providers manage user's own domain name, including any e-mail authentication scheme that the domain owner wishes to enforce in order to convey the meaning that using a specific domain name identifies and qualifies e-mail senders.
Most e-mail hosting providers offer advanced premium e-mail solutions hosted on dedicated custom e-mail platforms. The technology and offerings of different e-mail hosting providers can therefore vary with different needs. E-mail offered by most webhosting companies is usually more basic standardized
POP3 based e-mail and webmail based on open source webmail applications like Horde or SquirrelMail. Almost all webhosting providers offer standard basic e-mail while not all e-mail hosting providers offer webhosting.

Types of hosting

Internet hosting services can run Web servers; see Internet hosting services.
Hosting services limited to the Web:
Many large companies who are not internet service providers also need a computer permanently connected to the web so they can send email, files, etc. to other sites. They may also use the computer as a website host so they can provide details of their goods and services to anyone interested. Additionally these people may decide to place online orders.
Free web hosting service: offered by different companies with limited services, sometimes supported by advertisements, and often limited when compared to paid hosting.
Shared web hosting service: one's website is placed on the same server as many other sites, ranging from a few to hundreds or thousands. Typically, all domains may share a common pool of server resources, such as RAM and the CPU. The features available with this type of service can be quite extensive. A shared website may be hosted with a reseller.
Reseller web hosting: allows clients to become web hosts themselves. Resellers could function, for individual domains, under any combination of these listed types of hosting, depending on who they are affiliated with as a provider. Resellers' accounts may vary tremendously in size: they may have their own virtual dedicated server to a collocated server. Many resellers provide a nearly identical service to their provider's shared hosting plan and provide the technical support themselves.
Virtual Dedicated Server: also known as a Virtual Private Server (VPS), divides server resources into virtual servers, where resources can be allocated in a way that does not directly reflect the underlying hardware. VPS will often be allocated resources based on a one server to many VPSs relationship, however virtualisation may be done for a number of reasons, including the ability to move a VPS container between servers. The users may have root access to their own virtual space. Customers are sometimes responsible for patching and maintaining the server.
Dedicated hosting service: the user gets his or her own Web server and gains full control over it (root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows); however, the user typically does not own the server. Another type of Dedicated hosting is Self-Managed or Unmanaged. This is usually the least expensive for Dedicated plans. The user has full administrative access to the box, which means the client is responsible for the security and maintenance of his own dedicated box.
Managed hosting service: the user gets his or her own Web server but is not allowed full control over it (root access for Linux/administrator access for Windows); however, they are allowed to manage their data via FTP or other remote management tools. The user is disallowed full control so that the provider can guarantee quality of service by not allowing the user to modify the server or potentially create configuration problems. The user typically does not own the server. The server is leased to the client.
Colocation web hosting service: similar to the dedicated web hosting service, but the user owns the colo server; the hosting company provides physical space that the server takes up and takes care of the server. This is the most powerful and expensive type of web hosting service. In most cases, the colocation provider may provide little to no support directly for their client's machine, providing only the electrical, Internet access, and storage facilities for the server. In most cases for colo, the client would have his own administrator visit the data center on site to do any hardware upgrades or changes.
Cloud Hosting: is a new type of hosting platform that allows customers powerful, scalable and reliable hosting based on clustered load-balanced servers and utility billing. Removing single-point of failures and allowing customers to pay for only what they use versus what they could use.
Clustered hosting: having multiple servers hosting the same content for better resource utilization. Clustered Servers are a perfect solution for high-availability dedicated hosting, or creating a scalable web hosting solution. A cluster may separate web serving from database hosting capability.
Grid hosting: this form of distributed hosting is when a server cluster acts like a grid and is composed of multiple nodes.
Home server: usually a single machine placed in a private residence can be used to host one or more web sites from a usually consumer-grade broadband connection. These can be purpose-built machines or more commonly old PCs. Some ISPs actively attempt to block home servers by disallowing incoming requests to TCP port 80 of the user's connection and by refusing to provide static IP addresses. A common way to attain a reliable DNS hostname is by creating an account with a dynamic DNS service. A dynamic DNS service will automatically change the IP address that a URL points to when the IP address changes.

Hosting reliability and uptime

Hosting uptime refers to the percentage of time the host is accessible via the internet. Many providers state that they aim for at least 99.9% uptime (roughly equivalent to 45 minutes of downtime a month, or less), but there may be server restarts and planned (or unplanned) maintenance in any hosting environment, which may or may not be considered part of the official uptime promise.
Many providers tie uptime and accessibility into their own service level agreement (SLA). SLAs sometimes include refunds or reduced costs if performance goals are not met.

Web hosting service

A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation.
The scope of hosting services varies widely. The most basic is
web page and small-scale file hosting, where files can be uploaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or a Web interface. The files are usually delivered to the Web "as is" or with little processing. Many Internet service providers (ISPs) offer this service free to their subscribers. People can also obtain Web page hosting from other, alternative service providers. Personal web site hosting is typically free, advertisement-sponsored, or inexpensive. Business web site hosting often has a higher expense.
Single page hosting is generally sufficient only for
personal web pages. A complex site calls for a more comprehensive package that provides database support and application development platforms (e.g. PHP, Java, Ruby on Rails, ColdFusion, and ASP.NET). These facilities allow the customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and content management. For e-commerce, SSL is also highly recommended.
The host may also provide an interface or
control panel for managing the Web server and installing scripts as well as other services like e-mail. Some hosts specialize in certain software or services (e.g. e-commerce). They are commonly used by larger companies to outsource network infrastructure to a hosting company.

Advantages of remote backup

Remote backup has advantages over traditional backup methods:[2]
Perhaps the most important aspect of backing up is that backups are stored in a different location from the original data. Traditional backup requires manually taking the backup media offsite.
Remote backup does not require user intervention. The user does not have to change tapes, label CDs or perform other manual steps.
Unlimited data retention.
Some remote backup services will work continuously, backing up files as they are changed.
Most remote backup services will maintain a list of versions of your files.

Most remote backup services will use a 128 - 448 bit encryption to send data over unsecured links (ie internet)
A few remote backup services can reduce backup by only transmitting changed binary data bits

Typical features

Opened file backup
The ability to back up files that are frequently left open, such as Outlook files (*.pst) or SQL database files. This feature allows IT administrators to run backup jobs at any time of the day, not requiring server down-time. Most enterprise online backup products support an add-on for this. Higher-end products may support this natively.
Multi-platform
A multi-platform backup service can back up multiple platforms such as the various flavours of Windows, Macintosh, and Linux/Unix.
Network backup
A backup service supporting network backup can back up multiple computers , servers or Network Attached Storage appliances on a local area network from a single computer or device.
Multi-site
Some services offer the capability to back up both data at the primary site and data located at remote offices and branch offices, in a relatively seamless manner.
Continuous backup - Continuous Data Protection CDP
Allows the service to back up continuously or on a predefined schedule. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages. Most backup services are schedule-based and perform backups at a predetermined time. Some services provide continuous data backups which are used by large financial institutions and large online retailers. However, there is typically a tradeoff with performance and system resources.
Online access to files
Some services allow you to access backed-up files via a normal web browser. Many services do not provide this type of functionality.
Data compression
Data will typically be compressed with a lossless compression algorithm to minimize the amount of bandwidth used.
Differential data compression
A way to further minimize network traffic is to transfer only the binary data that has changed from one day to the next, similar to the open source file transfer service Rsync. More advanced online backup services use this method rather than transfer entire files.
Transfer encryption
Encryption to prevent interception of data. This does not mean that the data will necessarily be encrypted during storage.
End-to-end encryption
Encryption of data at the client. The encrypted data is then transmitted and stored on the server. This requires a client-generated key, and precludes data recovery should the key be lost. Depending on implementation, it may also preclude certain optimization techniques (such as recognition of common operating system files which don't need to be stored multiple times, and removal of duplicate user files across different users —'deduplication').
Bandwidth usage
User-selectable option to use more or less bandwidth; it may be possible to set this to change at various times of day.

Remote backup service

A remote, online, or managed backup service is a service that provides users with a system for backing up and storing computer files. Online backup providers are companies that provide this type of service.
Online backup systems are typically built around a client software program that runs on a schedule, typically once a day. This program collects, compresses, encrypts, and transfers the data to the remote backup service provider's servers. Other types of product are also available in the market, such as remote continuous data protection (CDP).
Providers of this type of service frequently target specific market segments. High-end LAN-based backup systems may offer services such as near-realtime transaction-level replication or open file backups. Consumer online backup companies frequently have beta software offerings and/or free-trial backup services.

Services offered

Most colocation centres offer different types of services to customers ranging from dedicated suites/rooms or cages to smaller racks or partial racks. Some colocation centres also offer some degree of service level agreements to support a wide range of computer and network related services, for example, server reboots, hardware replacements and software updates.
There are a few key differences between a dedicated server and colocation servers. Dedicated servers tend to be owned and rented out, while a colocation server is one that the client owns.
Some colocation centres feature a "meet-me-room" where the different carriers housed in the centre can efficiently exchange data. Most peering points sit in colocation centres. These sites are often used for web hosting. Most colocation centres have high levels of physical security and multiple redundant power and humidity/air-conditioning systems.
Confusingly, one company can operate a colocation centre, another can provide the bandwidth, whereas a third company would rent a cage inside the centre, renting out racks to hosting providers which would rent the servers themselves to actual clients. Any and all of those companies will claim ownership of the facility and will feature photos and descriptions of it on their web sites. At the actual physical location various ID cards with various logos will be present, including those of the company that built/rents/owns the actual building.

One-click hosting

One-click hosting generally describes web services that allow internet users to easily upload one or more files from their hard drives (or from a remote location) onto the one-click host's server free of charge.
Most such services simply return a URL which can be given to other people, who can then fetch the file later on. As of 2005 these sites have drastically increased in popularity, and subsequently, many of the smaller, less efficient sites have failed. Many internet forums exist in order to share such links; this type of file sharing has, to a degree, taken over from P2P filesharing services[2].
The sites make money through advertising or charging for premium services such as increased downloading capacity, removing any wait restrictions the site may have or prolonging how long uploaded files remain on the site. Many such sites implement a CAPTCHA to prevent automated downloading

Hosting Obtaining

Web hosting is often provided as part of a general Internet access plan; there are many free and paid providers offering these services.
A customer needs to evaluate the requirements of the application to choose what kind of hosting to use. Such considerations include database server software, scripting software, and
operating system. Most hosting providers provide Linux-based web hosting which offers a wide range of different software. A typical configuration for a Linux server is the LAMP platform: Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Perl/Python. The webhosting client may want to have other services, such as email for their business domain, databases or multi-media services for streaming media. A customer may also choose Windows as the hosting platform. The customer still can choose from PHP, Perl, and Python but may also use ASP .Net or Classic ASP. Web hosting packages often include a Web Content Management System, so the end-user doesn't have to worry about the more technical aspects.

History

Originally designated Shefford & District Upper School, it was as Samuel Whitbread Upper School that it opened on a purpose-built site on the 4th September 1973, as part of Bedfordshire County Council's re-organisation into a 3-tier, non-selective school system. Adult education provision was in place from the beginning under Mr Gordon Ainscough, but the name of the institution was not changed to Samuel Whitbread Upper School and Community College until 1975 (when the 'Headmaster' became the 'Head') and it became Samuel Whitbread Community College, (led by a 'Principal') at some point in the late 90s.
The Headmaster when the school opened was Mr Kenneth Dodsworth, and the Chairman of Governors was Alderman W. Inskip.
The original intention was for the school to have an eventual roll of 1100, drawn from the existing
secondary modern schools Robert Bloomfield and Etonbury, which were to become middle schools, and from 1975, a planned purpose-built Henlow Middle School.
There were 457 pupils when the school was opened: 249 in what was then '3rd Year' (now known as Year 9) from the Robert Bloomfield and Etonbury Schools; 94 in the '4th Year' (Year 10) and 117 in the 5th Year (Year 11) who were from Robert Bloomfield only. A vestigial 6th Form of 5 former Robert Bloomfield pupils was enrolled, although 6th form courses were not yet in place.
30 teachers were employed in September 1973, the last of whom retired in 2007, at that time there were 25 support staff, including 8 cleaners and 9 kitchen assistants.
